Sysmex America recently announced a partnership with Advanced Instruments to broaden its portfolio to include Automated Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) cell counting. This partnership will allow Sysmex's innovative technology to be used with Advanced Instruments' novel GloCyte Automated Cell Counter System, providing an unprecedented detection level for automated cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) cell counts to labs in the U.S., Canada and Latin America. According to this agreement, Sysmex America, Inc. will be the exclusive distributor of GloCyte in the Americas.
CSF is collected from patients to diagnose leukemia, hemorrhaging, malignancies, infections and other conditions that may involve the central nervous system. The easy-to-use, CSF-dedicated analyzer will help physicians make more timely and accurate patient diagnoses.
The GloCyte Automated Cell Counter System, which received US FDA clearance in 2016, is designed to provide a quantitative determination of red blood cells (RBCs) and total nucleated cells (TNCs) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) collected from adult and pediatric patients.
The system combines fluorescence, microscopy, and digital image analysis, along with highly specific reagents and an intelligent counting algorithm, to provide precise, reliable, timely, and linear counts down to zero for red blood cell and total nucleated cell in CSF. It requires only 30 microliters of sample per test and provides timely results. It uses disposable test cartridges, ensuring no sample carryover and easy disposal, and includes built-in quality control of Levey-Jennings charts and an audit table.
In a company press release, Andy Hay, chief operating officer of Sysmex America noted, "While diagnostic technology like our XN-3100 and XN-9100 provide highly accurate and reliable results for an array of health conditions, for laboratories testing CSF, adding GloCyte is a solution that provides accurate cell counts at clinically relevant low levels while offering maximum efficiency and minimum workflow disruption."
Sysmex America is a leading provider of automated in vitro diagnostic hematology, coagulation and Urinalysis Analyzers, reagents and information systems for laboratories and healthcare facilities throughout the Western Hemisphere.
Advanced Instruments, Inc. is a leading designer, manufacturer and marketer of instrumentation and associated consumables for clinical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, microbiology and dairy laboratories across the world.
