ABOUT THIS PAGE

If you are here, something is going on with your Access 2.

Maybe the Operator's Manual went missing and a new tech needs to understand the chemiluminescent substrate system or reagent pack loading procedure. Maybe the luminometer is giving weak signals and your QC is trending down. Maybe the sample probe is throwing errors, the reagent carousel is not indexing properly, or the substrate dispensing system is inconsistent. Maybe your wash system is not performing separation correctly and you are seeing carryover. Maybe your Beckman Coulter service contract renewal is more expensive than you can justify. Or maybe the repair-versus-replace decision is getting close.

Block Scientific is an independent laboratory equipment company with 40+ years of experience. We are not Beckman Coulter and we are not affiliated with them. What we are is a company that knows immunoassay platforms, with a Centers of Excellence designation for the Access 2 and nationwide service coverage.

Tell us what you need and we will get back to you within one business day.

DOCUMENTATION

Access 2 Manual and Documentation Help

The Access 2 comes with an Operator's Manual covering system description, chemiluminescent technology principles, reagent pack handling, sample processing, calibration, quality control, wash system operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Additional documentation includes assay-specific method sheets for each Access reagent and LIS interface specifications.

PARTS

Access 2 Parts Inquiries

The Access 2 is a benchtop immunoassay analyzer using paramagnetic particle chemiluminescent technology. It processes up to 100 tests per hour with random access and STAT priority. Common replacement needs include the luminometer detector, sample and reagent probes, the reagent carousel mechanism, wash station components, substrate dispensing system parts, reaction vessel supply, and separation magnets. The system uses Access reagent packs in a closed system.

Block Scientific can help identify the right component and check availability. If the luminometer or separation system needs major work, we can discuss whether repair or replacement makes better sense.

SERVICE

Access 2 Service and Preventive Maintenance

The Access 2 requires regular maintenance including wash system prime and verification, luminometer background checks, probe cleaning and alignment, reagent carousel inspection, substrate line purging, and reaction vessel path cleaning. Calibration is reagent-lot-specific. QC should be run at defined intervals per your lab's policy.

Block Scientific offers four service plan tiers from Prepared through Proactive, all nationwide, at up to 30% less than OEM pricing.

Access 2 Service and Preventive Maintenance

Prepared

Covers low-use clinics with one annual PM, unlimited tech support, parts, labor, and travel.

Protected

Adds one-hour callback, 48-hour onsite response, and two repair calls per year.

Classic

Offers unlimited repair calls.

Proactive

Delivers everything in Classic plus 24-hour onsite response.

All plans come in at up to 30% less than OEM pricing.

Access 2 Troubleshooting Help

TROUBLESHOOTING

Access 2 Troubleshooting Help

Common error categories include luminometer signal issues (weak signal, high background, detector degradation), probe errors (clot detection, level sensing, misalignment), reagent carousel indexing failures, wash system problems (incomplete separation, carryover), substrate dispensing inconsistencies, and communication errors with LIS. Simultaneous QC drift across multiple assays often points to the substrate system or luminometer rather than individual reagent packs.

Our support team can help narrow the root cause. If your Access 2 is down, note that in the form and we will prioritize your request.

If your instrument is down right now and patient testing is affected, let us know in the form and mark the urgency. Downed instruments get priority.

REPLACEMENT

Access 2 Refurbished Replacement Systems

A refurbished Access 2 from Block Scientific goes through our Centers of Excellence inspection including luminometer calibration, probe alignment, wash system verification, carousel mechanism testing, and full assay runs with control materials.

Replacing an Access 2 with another means no retraining, same Access reagent packs, and same LIS interface. Block Scientific offers financing and trade-in credit.

TECHNICAL OVERVIEW

About the Beckman Coulter Access 2 Immunoassay System

About the Beckman Coulter Access 2 Immunoassay System

The Beckman Coulter Access 2 is a benchtop immunoassay analyzer using paramagnetic particle chemiluminescent technology. It processes up to 100 tests per hour with random access capability and STAT sample priority. The system supports a broad menu of Access immunoassays spanning thyroid, fertility and pregnancy, cardiac markers, tumor markers, anemia, metabolic markers, and infectious disease testing.

The Access 2 uses a closed reagent system with Access reagent packs that include all necessary antibodies, calibrators, and buffers in ready-to-use format. Paramagnetic particles serve as the solid phase for antigen/antibody binding, with magnetic separation and wash steps to remove unbound material. The chemiluminescent substrate generates light proportional to analyte concentration, measured by the onboard luminometer. Reaction vessels are single-use disposables.

The Access platform was developed by Sanofi Diagnostics Pasteur (later Beckman Coulter) and has been refined over multiple generations. The Access 2 is the current benchtop model, positioned below the larger DxI 600 and DxI 800 for labs that need reliable immunoassay testing at moderate throughput without the footprint of a floor-model system. The Access reagent menu is shared across the platform family.

The Access 2 installed base spans hospital satellite labs, physician office laboratories, clinic-based labs, and specialty testing sites. Its benchtop form factor, STAT capability, and broad Beckman Coulter reagent menu make it a standard choice for labs that need immunoassay testing without high-throughput infrastructure. Common support needs include luminometer maintenance, wash system service, reagent pack sourcing, and replacement units.
