ABOUT THIS PAGE

If you are here, something is going on with your RAPIDPoint 500.

Maybe the operator manual is missing and a new tech needs to learn the cartridge replacement procedure. Maybe the measurement cartridge expired early and you need to figure out why. Maybe the sample port is rejecting syringes, the clot detection system is flagging clean samples, or the CO-oximetry readings are drifting. Maybe the automatic QC is failing and you are not sure if it is a cartridge issue or a sensor problem. Maybe your Siemens service contract is up for renewal and the quote is higher than last year. Or maybe you are starting to wonder whether it is time to replace this unit with a refurbished one rather than keep paying for repairs.

Block Scientific is an independent laboratory equipment company with 40+ years of experience. We are not Siemens Healthineers and we are not affiliated with them. What we are is a company that knows blood gas platforms, with a Centers of Excellence designation for the RAPIDPoint 500 and nationwide support coverage.

We can help you with documentation, cartridges, service plans, troubleshooting, refurbished replacements, trade-ins, and disposal. Tell us what you need and we will get back to you within one business day.

DOCUMENTATION

RAPIDPoint 500 Manual and Documentation Help

The RAPIDPoint 500 comes with an Operator's Manual covering system setup, cartridge installation, sample processing, calibration, quality control, troubleshooting, and maintenance. There are also Quick Reference cards, on-board video tutorials accessible through the touchscreen, and training documentation for the RAPIDComm Data Management System integration. Siemens provides additional resources through their support portal for software updates and technical bulletins.

These documents go missing more often than you would expect, especially in environments where blood gas analyzers serve multiple departments or shift teams. If you need help locating a specific RAPIDPoint 500 document, tell us which one using the form below. We will do our best to connect you with available resources or point you in the right direction.

PARTS

RAPIDPoint 500 Parts Inquiries

The RAPIDPoint 500 is a cartridge-based system with a straightforward consumable profile. The measurement cartridge is the primary replacement item, containing planar sensors, a sample probe, and a CO-oximetry chamber in a single unit that lasts up to 28 days. Replacement takes approximately 24 minutes. The wash/waste cartridge handles rinse and waste management. The automatic QC cartridge runs onboard quality control without operator intervention throughout its 28-day life. Beyond cartridges, the system includes a touchscreen display, an integrated barcode scanner, and a self-cleaning universal sample port with clot detection and air bubble management.

Block Scientific can help you identify the right component for your specific RAPIDPoint 500 configuration and, in some cases, source it for you. Our primary focus is service, refurbishment, and full system support rather than individual part-by-part sales, but we are happy to look into availability and point you in the right direction.

If the issue turns out to be more involved than a cartridge swap, we can talk through whether a service visit or a system-level solution makes more sense.

SERVICE

RAPIDPoint 500 Service and Preventive Maintenance

The RAPIDPoint 500 is designed as a maintenance-free system for day-to-day operation. The cartridge-based design means there are no reagent bottles, no gas tanks, and no routine sensor maintenance for the operator. Calibration and quality control run automatically. The primary operator task is replacing measurement cartridges every 28 days (or when depleted) and replacing wash/waste cartridges as needed. The system performs its own functional checks and flags issues through the touchscreen interface.

Block Scientific offers four service plan tiers.

RAPIDPoint 500 Troubleshooting Help

TROUBLESHOOTING

RAPIDPoint 500 Troubleshooting Help

The RAPIDPoint 500 performs a comprehensive series of analyzer functional checks and uses flagging mechanisms to catch issues before they affect results. Common problem categories include cartridge-related failures (early expiration, sensor degradation, improper installation), sample port issues (clot detection false positives, air bubble flagging, syringe compatibility problems), CO-oximetry drift or failures, QC cartridge failures or automatic QC out-of-range flags, barcode scanner malfunctions, and network connectivity issues with RAPIDComm or LIS/HIS systems. The 500e variant may also encounter issues related to the Windows 10 IoT operating system update.

Block Scientific cannot provide step-by-step repair procedures on this page for liability reasons, but our support team can talk through your symptoms and help you figure out whether the issue requires a new cartridge, a system reset, a software update, or an onsite service visit.

If your RAPIDPoint 500 is currently down, let us know in the form below and we will prioritize your request. Downed instruments get priority.

REPLACEMENT

RAPIDPoint 500 Refurbished Replacement Systems

When repair costs exceed the value of the system, when you need an additional blood gas analyzer for a new department, or when your current unit has reached end of life, a refurbished RAPIDPoint 500 from Block Scientific is worth considering. Every refurbished system goes through our Centers of Excellence multi-point inspection process, ships in days rather than the weeks typical of new procurement, and comes with a warranty.

Replacing a RAPIDPoint 500 with another RAPIDPoint 500 means your staff does not need retraining, your cartridge inventory stays the same, your QC procedures remain unchanged, and your RAPIDComm integration stays intact. Block Scientific also offers financing options and trade-in credit toward your replacement.

TECHNICAL OVERVIEW

About the Siemens RAPIDPoint 500 Blood Gas Analyzer

About the Siemens RAPIDPoint 500 Blood Gas Analyzer

The RAPIDPoint 500 is a benchtop blood gas analyzer designed for point-of-care and central laboratory environments. It measures pH, blood gases (pCO2, pO2), electrolytes (Na+, K+, Ca++, Cl-), metabolites (glucose, lactate), and full CO-oximetry (tHb, HHb, O2Hb, sO2, COHb, MetHb) including neonatal total bilirubin (nBili) from arterial, venous, and capillary whole blood samples. It also supports pleural fluid pH testing. Results are available in approximately 60 seconds from a sample volume of just 100 microliters.

The system uses a fully cartridge-based design with no external reagent bottles or gas tanks. The measurement cartridge contains planar sensors, a sample probe, and a CO-oximetry chamber, lasting up to 28 days before replacement. The universal, self-cleaning sample port handles both syringe and capillary samples with the same procedure, features built-in clot detection and air bubble management, and supports hands-free automatic sampling for biosafety. An integrated barcode scanner captures operator and patient IDs. The adjustable color touchscreen supports menu-prompted operation with on-board video tutorials.

The RAPIDPoint platform evolved from Siemens Healthineers' (formerly Bayer Diagnostics) legacy in blood gas analysis, building on decades of sensor technology and point-of-care instrument design. The RAPIDPoint 500 was the primary model, and the 500e variant updated the operating system from Windows 7 Embedded to Windows 10 IoT with a refreshed user interface and enhanced cybersecurity features. The fundamental scientific technology and clinical performance remain unchanged between the two variants. The system integrates with the RAPIDComm Data Management System for centralized management of multiple Siemens blood gas analyzers, operators, and QC documentation.

The RAPIDPoint 500's installed base spans hospital ICUs, emergency departments, operating rooms, respiratory therapy departments, and satellite labs. Its maintenance-free design, automatic calibration and QC, and fast results make it a standard choice for critical care blood gas testing. Common support needs include measurement cartridge sourcing, sample port troubleshooting, CO-oximetry calibration issues, and RAPIDComm connectivity support.
