ABOUT THIS PAGE
If you are here, something is going on with your Centaur XPT.
Maybe the Operator's Manual went missing and a new tech needs to understand the acridinium ester chemiluminescent technology or the reagent pack carousel. Maybe the luminometer signal is declining and immunoassay results are drifting. Maybe the sample probe is throwing clot detection errors, the magnetic separation system is underperforming, or the cuvette supply is running low. Maybe the system is flagging wash solution issues, the reagent cooling system is out of range, or your LIS interface has stopped communicating. Maybe your Siemens service contract is expiring at a higher rate. Or maybe you are evaluating whether to repair or replace this high-throughput system.
Block Scientific is an independent laboratory equipment company with 40+ years of experience. We are not Siemens Healthineers and we are not affiliated with them. What we are is a company that knows high-throughput immunoassay platforms, with a Centers of Excellence designation for the ADVIA Centaur XPT and nationwide service coverage.

DOCUMENTATION
Centaur XPT Manual and Documentation Help
The Centaur XPT comes with an Operator's Manual covering system architecture, acridinium ester direct chemiluminescent technology (ADVIA Centaur LUMI technology), reagent pack management, sample processing with continuous loading, magnetic separation, wash system operation, calibration, quality control, and troubleshooting. Additional documentation includes assay-specific package inserts for the ADVIA Centaur menu and Atellica Solution integration guides.
If you need help locating a specific Centaur XPT document, tell us which one using the form below.
PARTS
Centaur XPT Parts Inquiries
The Centaur XPT is a high-throughput floor-model immunoassay analyzer processing up to 240 tests per hour. Common replacement needs include the luminometer and detection optics, sample and reagent probes, the magnetic separation station, cuvettes (single-use reaction vessels), wash solution lines and nozzles, reagent carousel cooling components, the sample handler mechanism, and various pumps and valves. The system uses ADVIA Centaur reagent packs in a closed system with onboard refrigeration.
Block Scientific can help identify the right component and check availability. If the luminometer or separation system needs major attention, we can discuss whether repair or replacement makes better financial sense.
SERVICE
Centaur XPT Service and Preventive Maintenance
The Centaur XPT requires daily system priming, wash solution management, cuvette supply monitoring, and background luminometer checks. Periodic maintenance includes probe cleaning and alignment, magnetic separation verification, reagent cooling system checks, waste system management, and comprehensive system washes. Calibration is reagent-lot-specific and runs automatically. The XPT variant introduced enhanced sample management and expanded throughput compared to the earlier Centaur XP.
Block Scientific offers four service plan tiers:

Prepared
Covers low-use clinics with one annual PM, unlimited tech support, parts, labor, and travel.
Protected
Adds one-hour callback, 48-hour onsite response, and two repair calls per year.
Classic
Offers unlimited repair calls.
Proactive
Delivers everything in Classic plus 24-hour onsite response.
All plans come in at up to 30% less than OEM pricing.
If your current Siemens service arrangement is expiring, let us put together a comparison.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Centaur XPT Troubleshooting Help
Common error categories include luminometer issues (signal degradation, high background, detector drift), magnetic separation errors (incomplete bead capture, carryover between reactions), probe errors (clot detection, level sensing, alignment), reagent pack errors (temperature excursions, expired packs, barcode failures), wash system problems (insufficient wash, solution supply alerts), cuvette supply errors, and LIS/Atellica communication issues. Simultaneous QC drift across multiple assays typically indicates a system-level issue rather than individual reagent problems.
Our support team can help narrow the root cause. If your Centaur XPT is down, note that in the form and we will prioritize your request. Downed instruments get priority.
REPLACEMENT
Centaur XPT Refurbished Replacement Systems
A refurbished Centaur XPT from Block Scientific goes through our Centers of Excellence inspection including luminometer calibration, magnetic separation verification, probe alignment, reagent cooling validation, wash system testing, and full assay panel runs with control materials.
Replacing a Centaur XPT with another means no retraining, same ADVIA Centaur reagent packs, same calibrators and controls, and same LIS interface. The Centaur XPT uses the same assay menu as the Centaur XP and CP, so results correlate across the platform. Block Scientific offers financing and trade-in credit.

TECHNICAL OVERVIEW
About the Siemens ADVIA Centaur XPT Immunoassay System
The ADVIA Centaur XPT is a high-throughput, floor-model immunoassay analyzer using acridinium ester direct chemiluminescent technology. It processes up to 240 tests per hour with continuous random access, STAT priority, and automated sample handling. The system supports a broad menu of ADVIA Centaur immunoassays covering thyroid, fertility and pregnancy, cardiac markers, tumor markers, anemia, infectious diseases, metabolic markers, therapeutic drug monitoring, and specialty testing.
The Centaur XPT uses single-use cuvettes as reaction vessels, magnetic microparticles as the solid phase for antigen/antibody binding, and acridinium ester labels that generate chemiluminescent signal measured by the onboard luminometer. The magnetic separation and wash steps remove unbound material before the signal is read. Reagent packs are stored in a refrigerated carousel with barcode identification for automatic inventory tracking. The system supports onboard dilution and reflex testing.
The ADVIA Centaur platform traces its origins to Bayer Diagnostics, which developed the ACS:180 and Centaur immunoassay systems using acridinium ester technology. Siemens acquired the platform through its purchase of Bayer Diagnostics and later Dade Behring. The Centaur evolved through the CP (compact), XP (expanded), and XPT (expanded with throughput enhancements) variants. The XPT is the current high-throughput model, positioned alongside the Atellica IM analyzer in the Siemens immunoassay portfolio. ADVIA Centaur reagent packs are compatible across the CP, XP, and XPT models.
The Centaur XPT installed base spans hospital core laboratories, reference labs, and large medical centers. Its high throughput, broad immunoassay menu, and compatibility with the Atellica Solution ecosystem make it a standard choice for labs that need consolidated immunoassay testing at volume. Common support needs include luminometer maintenance, magnetic separation service, reagent pack sourcing, cuvette supply, and replacement units for aging systems.
