ABOUT THIS PAGE

If you are here, something is going on with your Mini VIDAS.

Maybe the Operator's Manual is missing and a new tech needs to learn the reagent strip loading and calibration procedures. Maybe the fluorescence reader is giving inconsistent signals and your QC is drifting. Maybe the pipetting system is not dispensing correctly, the incubation temperature is out of range, or the built-in printer has stopped working. Maybe you are a veterinary clinic running progesterone tests for dog breeders and your reagent supply is unreliable. Or maybe your Mini VIDAS is aging and you are comparing repair costs against a refurbished replacement.

Block Scientific is an independent laboratory equipment company with 40+ years of experience. We are not bioMerieux and we are not affiliated with them.

What we are is a company that knows immunoassay platforms, with a Centers of Excellence designation for the Mini VIDAS and nationwide support. Tell us what you need and we will get back to you within one business day.

DOCUMENTATION

Mini VIDAS Manual and Documentation Help

The Mini VIDAS comes with an Operator's Manual covering system description, ELFA technology principles, reagent strip and SPR (Solid Phase Receptacle) handling, test procedures for single and batch testing, calibration (one-point recalibration every 14 or 28 days depending on assay), quality control, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Additional documentation includes assay-specific package inserts for each of the 100+ available parameters.

These documents disappear in busy lab and clinic environments, especially in veterinary practices where the Mini VIDAS may be the only immunoassay system. If you need help locating a specific document, tell us which one using the form below.

PARTS

Mini VIDAS Parts Inquiries

The Mini VIDAS is a compact benchtop analyzer weighing 40 kg (88 lbs) with two independent detection sections, each with 6 positions, processing up to 12 tests simultaneously. Common replacement needs include the fluorescence optical reader, pipetting tips and dispensing components, the heating block assembly, the integrated keyboard, the built-in thermal printer, and barcode reader accessories. The system uses self-contained reagent strips (SPRs) that include all buffers, conjugates, and diluents needed for each assay.

Block Scientific can help identify the right component for your Mini VIDAS. Our focus is service, refurbishment, and full system support, but we are happy to check availability on specific parts. If the optical system or pipetting mechanism needs attention, we can discuss whether repair or replacement is the better path.

SERVICE

Mini VIDAS Service and Preventive Maintenance

The Mini VIDAS requires minimal routine maintenance. The primary maintenance tasks include one-point recalibration every 14 or 28 days (depending on the assay), periodic cleaning of the pipetting system and incubation wells, and QC testing at defined intervals. The system is designed for long MTBF (mean time between failures) exceeding 1,100 days, reflecting its robust construction. The ELFA technology eliminates carryover risks between tests.

Block Scientific offers four service plan tiers:

Mini VIDAS Troubleshooting Help

TROUBLESHOOTING

Mini VIDAS Troubleshooting Help

Common error categories on the Mini VIDAS include fluorescence reader issues (signal degradation, background noise, lamp aging), pipetting errors (dispensing failures, tip blockages, insufficient aspiration), incubation temperature deviations, calibration failures (out-of-range recalibration values), reagent strip errors (expired strips, improper storage, damaged SPRs), printer malfunctions, and communication errors when interfaced with LIS. Inconsistent results across replicate tests may indicate optical system degradation or incubation problems.

Block Scientific cannot provide repair procedures on this page, but our support team can talk through your symptoms and help determine whether the issue is reagent-related, optical, mechanical, or environmental.

If your Mini VIDAS is down, note that in the form and we will prioritize your request.

Downed instruments get priority.

REPLACEMENT

Mini VIDAS Refurbished Replacement Systems

When the fluorescence reader degrades, when the pipetting system fails, or when you need additional capacity, a refurbished Mini VIDAS from Block Scientific goes through our Centers of Excellence inspection including optical system calibration, pipetting verification, incubation temperature validation, and full assay test runs with control materials.

The Mini VIDAS is popular in both clinical labs and veterinary clinics. Replacing a Mini VIDAS with another means no retraining, same reagent strip inventory, and same workflow. Block Scientific also offers financing and trade-in credit. Visit our product page for availability.

TECHNICAL OVERVIEW

About the bioMerieux Mini VIDAS Automated Immunoassay Analyzer

About the bioMerieux Mini VIDAS Automated Immunoassay Analyzer

The Mini VIDAS is a compact, fully automated immunoassay analyzer manufactured by bioMerieux, based on Enzyme Linked Fluorescent Assay (ELFA) technology. It is a smaller version of the full VIDAS system, with a built-in computer, keyboard, and printer. The analyzer has two independent detection sections, each with 6 positions, capable of processing up to 12 tests simultaneously. Ten different analytes can be run at the same time. All enzyme immunoassay stages are performed automatically: pipetting, incubating, washing, reading, and result printing.

The system weighs 40 kg (88 lbs), measures approximately 22 x 23 x 18 inches, operates on 100-240 VAC at 50-60 Hz, and consumes 150 watts. It supports over 100 parameters in single-test format across cardiovascular diseases, infectious diseases, cancer markers, fertility and pregnancy, thyroid, food safety (Salmonella, Listeria, E. coli), and specialty applications. Self-contained reagent strips (SPRs) include all necessary buffers, conjugates, and diluents. One-point recalibration is required every 14 or 28 days depending on the assay. MTBF exceeds 1,100 days.

The VIDAS platform was introduced by bioMerieux over three decades ago and has grown to one of the broadest installed bases of benchtop immunoanalyzers in the world. The Mini VIDAS is the compact model designed for smaller labs, physician offices, urgent care facilities, and increasingly, veterinary clinics. The platform's single-test format, no carryover risk, and minimal maintenance make it attractive for settings that need reliable immunoassay testing without the complexity of high-throughput platforms. bioMerieux has since introduced the VIDAS 3 as the next generation, but the Mini VIDAS remains widely deployed and fully supported with reagents.

The Mini VIDAS installed base spans clinical labs, hospital satellite labs, urgent care centers, physician offices, and veterinary clinics. Its popularity in veterinary settings (particularly for progesterone testing in canine breeding programs) has expanded the support market beyond traditional clinical applications. Common support needs include reagent strip sourcing (especially progesterone kits), fluorescence reader maintenance, calibration troubleshooting, and replacement units for aging systems.
