This is an update on the August 14, 2017 blog "Siemens Healthineers to Acquire Epocal from Alere"
Siemens Healthineers, the separately managed healthcare business of Siemens AG has completed its Epocal acquisition that was announced earlier. By incorporating Epocal's products to its POC Ecosystem™ solution, Siemens now enables customized testing offerings based on individual facility needs-whether that is handheld testing, benchtop solutions or central lab applications-to help improve process efficiency.
With this integration, Siemens has added handheld epoc® Blood Analysis System to its blood gas portfolio. This fully portable epoc system designed to analyze blood gas, electrolyte and metabolite results in approximately 30 seconds after blood sample introduction, performs a panel of 11 critical tests at the patient's side. Healthcare providers, patients, and hospital administration alike benefit from a streamlined testing process with improved turnaround times and operational efficiencies. It offers lab-quality testing solutions in every care setting. The product features epoc Host2 Mobile Computer and Reader and a BGEM Test Card.
Siemens Healthineers also enables healthcare providers to achieve better outcomes at lower costs by transforming care delivery through accessible and highly efficient health care offerings. "Health networks have varying needs for blood gas testing across physicians' offices, clinics, emergency departments, laboratories and even in ambulances. Having any one solution is limiting and may not meet all patient needs, which is why customized testing solutions are so important for improving patient care, says Peter Koerte, President, Point of Care Diagnostics, Siemens Healthineers, "With a complete offering for blood gas diagnostics, we can help healthcare providers and point-of-care coordinators improve their workflows by offering the right test in the right setting at the right time."
