Beckman Coulter Gets CE Mark for Its Physician Lab Hematology Analyzer

A global leader in the clinical diagnostics industry, Beckman Coulter recently announced that it received CE mark for its hematology analyzer, DxH 520. Designed to help low-volume laboratories enhance patient care through increased productivity with reduced costs, the DxH 520 is a 5-part differential closed tube hematology analyzer. Its comprehensive set of features automates daily tasks, resulting in improved efficiency, reduced amount of time spent on laboratory operations and thus better patient care.

Available with one of the smallest footprints in its class, this unit uses only three reagents, and features a robust patient data and QC management package. Using two aqueous-based cyanide-, azide- and formaldehyde-free reagents, the system reduces the amount of time spent on lab operations and frees up time for patient care.

This unit also helps laboratories manage resources, with its easy-to-use interface which enables technologists to access any screen in three clicks or less, saving valuable time. However, this analyzer is pending FDA clearance and is not yet available for in vitro diagnostic use in the United States.

According to Peter Soltani, senior vice president and general manager hematology and urinalysis, Beckman Coulter Diagnostics, "The DxH 520 analyzer fills a need for a comprehensive solution that increases productivity while driving down costs for physician office laboratories. Laboratory technologists can have the utmost confidence with world-class reliability, knowing that the technology is backed by Beckman Coulter's long-term commitment to and partnership in advanced hematology innovation that meets the needs of patients, physicians and laboratories, alike."

Other hematology analyzers in Beckman Coulter's product line include AcT diff series of analyzers such as AcT Diff 2, AcT 5diff and AcT 10 as well as LH 750 analyzer.

The company recently entered into a long term global distribution agreement with Technopath Clinical Diagnostics, a worldwide leader in the development and manufacture of total quality control (QC) solutions for clinical laboratories. Based on this agreement, Technopath will supply Multichem QC products, including QC materials and its IAMQC data management solutions to Beckman Coulter, thus aiming at improving the company's customer access to high-quality QC products, supporting efficient and reliable patient care worldwide.
