Bayer 238 is a blood gas analyzer
manufactured by Bayer Diagnostics (now
a division of Siemens). It is useful
for determining the pH, pCO2 and pO2
values in heparinized whole blood.
Apart from the aforementioned
parameters, the Siemens Bayer 238 can
measure standard or actual bicarbonate
(HCO3), base excess in vivo or in
vitro (BEvv or BEvt), and total carbon
dioxide (tCO2).
This analyzer is capable of displaying
results within 20 to 120 seconds after
the analysis. Automatic calibration
programmable sequence, 60µL
(capillary), 85µL (syringe) nominal
sample volumes, standby mode to
conserve reagent, last result recall,
and self-diagnostic test sequence are
other outstanding features of Bayer
238.
